Limited Hole Access (2024)

“Limited Hole Access” explores themes of censorship and concealment. The hole allows for a moment of controlled exposure.
What you see is limited by the amount of light that enters it. You are restricted to the level of access I choose to give you.
I find the connection between the hole and the concealed area, that I’ve restricted to be more important than what is actually there.
I decide how much information is available to you. This is my system of control. I am in power.

In “LHA1”, the hole becomes a window that allows light to enter. The concealed area is now easier to imagine. But the painting
is confined to a space without holes that would otherwise allow it to breathe. Now it is imprisoned. It suffocates.

In “LHA3”, the window becomes a lens that limits the light passing through it. Depending on where you stand, your exposure
to the painting is controlled.

In “LHA5”, the painting is controlled by the peephole installed in front of it. To view it properly, you look through the hole.
Your access is no longer limited to the light that shines through it. You choose to stand and view it through the hole.
You are now comfortable with this idea. The hole is in control.
